Bill Becker is the founding director of the PSU Center for Science Education (CSE). Since it’s inception in 1992 the CSE has been engaged in K-12 science teacher professional development, science education research, and K-20 science curriculum and program development. The Center for Science Education is an academic unit in College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and home of the University’s Master of Science Teaching (MST) program in general science. It is also the administrative home the University’s Robert Noyce Teacher Scholarship Program, the PSU Louis Stoke Alliance for Minority Participation in STEM program, and the Northwest Science Exposition System, Oregon’s system of qualifying fairs for the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair.

In his 28 years at PSU, Dr. Becker has been the principal investigator on grants that have lead to the establishment of PSU’s Science in the Liberal Arts Curriculum and the University’s Environmental Studies undergraduate degree program. He was a research fellow in the Center for Learning and Teaching in the West and served for four years as the University’s Faculty-in-Residence for Assessment. Bill has been on the development teams for the science content standards in both Oregon and Washington. He is currently leading a Collective Impact partnership for the establishment of a regional science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) Center for College and Career Readiness.
