Associate Professor of Practice


I hold BA in Cultural Anthropology, MA in Sociology with a major in Cultural Anthropology and a Master is Social Work. I have taken doctoral studies at the University of Michigan and Portland State. I earned my BA and MA at Oakland University. I was research assistant affiliated with Wayne State University and held a predoc appointment with Institute on Aging at Wayne State. Adjunct faculty for Oakland University, University of Michigan and Lowe Columbia College in Washington State.

PSU History

I was hired in 1997 as the Director of the Graduate Education now known as the CWEP program in the Child Welfare Partnership and Program Director of MSW Distance Option.

Academic/Research Focus

My primary area of interest has been the impact of cultural/sociological conflicts on differing identity groups. Research includes; anthropological fieldwork among the Otomi in Mexico, ethnic identity formation, service provision and provider bias impacting vulnerable groups including children and families, communities of color and lesbian service recipients. Practice areas include: child welfare, family preservation, community organization, and program development.

Personal Interests

My interests include painting, photography, and travel. I am passionate about my large extended family and our dogs!
