Megan Sand, mezzo soprano, joined the voice faculty at PSU in fall of 2018 teaching voice part time. She left Oregon State University in 2018 to have more time with her family after twelve years teaching individual voice lessons, vocal pedagogy, Italian, Latin, and French lyric diction, opera workshop, and group voice classes. Ms. Sand completed a B.A. in music from Oregon State University, and received a Master of Music in Voice Performance from the University of Oregon. She studied voice with Richard Poppino and Milagro Vargas.

In November 2012, Ms. Sand made her directorial debut staging scenes for OSU Opera Workshop while also serving as the Acting Director of Vocal Studies. She has since directed scenes from Carmen, L’elisir d’amore, Don Giovanni, and Little Women. In January 2013, Ms. Sand was the stage director for an excerpt of How to Date a Coloratura, by Philip Seward, which was a finalist in the chamber opera composition competition at the National Opera Association's annual national convention. Ms. Sand serves on the board of Willamette NATS as secretary/treasurer, is a member of the National Opera Association (NOA), and is a National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) member and adjudicator. A former repeat winner of the NATS competition, she now enjoys seeing her students participate and receive honors. She enjoys judging at the high school level as well, having served as a judge for the OSAA regional and state solo competitions.

Ms. Sand is familiar to local audiences from her work with organizations such as the Corvallis Repertory Singers, Friends of OSU Opera (formerly Opera Theater Corvallis), the Corvallis/OSU Symphony, and many OSU organizations: the Symphonic Wind Ensemble, OSU Choral Ensembles, OSU Opera Workshop, OSU Theatre, and the Music a la Carte Concert Series. Other performances include work with Cascadia Concert Opera, the Oregon Mozart Players, the UO Choral Ensembles, the UO Opera Ensemble, and the Astoria Music Festival. Some highlights of Ms. Sand's operatic and orchestral appearances include Mozart’s Requiem, Coronation Mass, Le nozze di Figaro, Die Zauberflöte, and Cosi fan tutte; Handel’s Dixit Dominus, Alexander’s Feast, andMessiah; Mendelssohn’s Elijah; Haydn’s The Creation; Lewis Buckley’s Sandburg Reflections; Leonard Bernstein’s Trouble in Tahiti, Benjamin Britten’s Albert Herring, Karl Jenkins’ Stabat Mater,Stephen Paulus’ To be Certain of the Dawn, and Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Mikado and Pirates of Penzance. When she’s not singing or teaching, Ms. Sand enjoys spending time with her husband and three young children.
