PSU History

Katie arrived at Portland State in the Fall of 2014 when she began work as a Research Associate at the Regional Research Institute. Currently Ms. Winters coordinates two state-wide Maternal Infant and Early Childhood Home Visiting (MIECHV) evaluation research projects sponsored by the Oregon Health Authority.

    Professional Focus

    Katie is an applied research practitioner and educator. As an evaluation generalist, she has partnered with community-based, state, and national organizations for over a decade to execute studies addressing early intervention, child maltreatment prevention, mental health, and education programs focused on literacy, the arts, entrepreneurship, environmental sustainability, and STEM. She teaches research methods in the MSW program in the Portland State University School of Social Work. Her research interests include inter-agency collaboration, interpersonal violence prevention, and the use of systems thinking in applied research.

    Personal Interests

    An avid outdoor enthusiast, Katie spends her winters skiing and snowboarding on Mt. Hood and uses the warmer months on single and multi-day hikes throughout the Pacific Northwest.
