Robert Rutherford

My name is Robert Rutherford and I am a fourth year Electrical Engineering student at Portland State University. I was born and raised near Portland in a local rural community and earned an Engineering Associate of Science transfer degree from Clackamas Community College. In addition to being a Scholars for Success in STEM (S3)  peer mentor, I work as an undergraduate researcher, serve as the chapter chair of Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) PSU student branch, and work as an electrical intern at a building design firm. Portland State University is a great place to earn your degree in engineering and many opportunities are available for those who wish to succeed. "Leadership through service" is my motto and that’s why I’m involved with the S3 mentorship program. When not busy studying or working, I can be found running, hiking, fishing, backpacking, boating or enjoying many other outdoor activities. Supporting diversity in STEM fields as well as all fields of education and society is more important now than it ever has been. This is a great opportunity and I’m thankful to be a member of this excellent team of students and faculty.
