My Background

I grew up on the east coast but moved to Oregon shortly after receiving my BS degree from Brown University. I lived in the Eugene area for 6 years, and then moved to Portland in 1994 for work reasons after completing an MS degree in computer science at the U of O. I have worked as a software engineer ever since, in a variety of fields and for companies of different sizes, ranging from small start-ups to multinational corporations.

My Experience at Portland State University

After one term in the program, I strongly believe I made the right decision pursuing my MBA at PSU. Thus far, I have been very impressed with the quality of the education. The professors I had first term were top notch. The material we covered was interesting (yes, even Financial Accounting, thanks to the professor's great teaching style), and the discussions were stimulating. I really appreciate the diversity of our cohort - the variety of age, gender, nationality, experiences, interests, etc. makes the program that much more engaging. And perhaps most important of all, I truly believe that the faculty and staff are invested in my success, helping me grow as a person and live up to my fullest potential.

My Future Goals

I enrolled in the MBA program at PSU to facilitate a career change in which my values around community, justice and the environment are directly aligned with my work. Creating and maintaining a healthy and sustainable food system is one area that I feel particularly passionate about. The problems with the dominant food system are well documented, from production practices and food economics to food availability and consumption patterns. On the other hand, there are many movements afoot to counter those problems, especially here in Portland. My goal is to take a leadership role in the 'Good Food' movement, whether through helping to start a new company, or working for an existing company or organization whose mission and values are aligned with my own.
