Meet Jewls Harris

Jewls Harris is an Access Counselor & Consultant in the Disability Resource Center at PSU where she provides support for students with disabilities and works with faculty and staff to make the university accessible for all. Jewls currently serves as Co-Chair of the Blind and Low Vision Special Interest Group of the Association of Higher Education and Disability (AHEAD). She also serves on the board of the regional chapter of AHEAD. Jewls is currently pursuing her PhD in Adult and Higher Education at Oregon State University. Jewls is also an alumna of PSU where she earned a Bachelors in psychology in 1994, studied graduate level history, and then earned a Masters in counseling in 2008. For five years, Jewls had a private practice counseling individuals and couples as they manage the impact of disability on their lives. She has also worked extensively with the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and was project leader on their Parents with MS project. Jewls served on the city of Portland Commission on Disability for over four years and has been actively involved in Disability Rights movements for nearly ten years. In her spare time, Jewls enjoys the great outdoors fishing, camping, and hiking with her husband, her kids, and her dogs.
