Florisela Herrejon

Florisela Herrejon Chavez is a graduating senior majoring in Biochemistry. She entered PSU immediately after finishing high school, and has been an integral part of LSAMP since 2012. She has served on the Student Advisory Board, as a co-leader of LSAMP’s SPOC team, and as a peer tutor for Chemistry courses. During her time at PSU she participated in multiple research experiences, both on and off campus. For example, she participated in a NSF funded Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program at Willamette University and was selected to participate in the Howard Hughes Medical Institute Exceptional Research Opportunities Program (EXROP) where she got to work at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard. Additionally, she has assisted with research in the Podrabsky lab (PSU Biology). Besides research, Florisela has was also a 2016 PSU Ronald E. McNair Scholar, and has been working as a peer mentor for the NIH funded BUILD EXITO program at PSU. Florisela has also volunteered throughout the community, including at Oregon Health and Science University. Upon graduating in Spring 2017, Florisela will begin a PhD program in Cancer Biology at Gerstner Sloan Kettering Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences in NYC.
