Emily Cahoon

Emily received her BS from the University of Delaware in geological sciences and continued studying geology at Washington State University where she earned her MS investigating the sedimentology and stratigraphy of volcaniclastic deposits in central Oregon. She is now pursuing her PhD here at Portland State University where her research interests broadly cover the petrogenesis and geochemistry of basaltic magmas. Specifically, her dissertation examines continental flood volcanism via trace element and isotopic signatures to assist in the modeling of magmatic systems. She has presented her research at various geologic conferences and will be assisting with a research cruise exploring hot spot volcanism near the Rio Grande Rise in the South Atlantic this winter.
