De’Junique Brown
De’Junique Brown

De’Junique Brown is a PCC student who plans to transfer to Portland State University and pursue a biochemistry degree. A Portland native, De’Junique’s passion began at a young age when her mother gifted her a book by Takeo Takahashi, ‘Atlas of the Human Body’ and when she worked in the Water Garden at daVinci Arts Middle School. Joining LSAMP in January 2015 gave her the opportunity to attend the PNW LSAMP conference at the University of Washington, become an LSAMP PCC SURE scholar, and an NIH BUILD EXITO scholar. She currently volunteers with Multnomah County Healthy Birth Initiatives, opening up access to health care, providing support, and addressing the needs of pregnant African American mothers. Already with a passion to become a doctor, this volunteer position sparked her interest to pursue not only her medical degree but also a masters in public health. She hopes that this academic path will allow her to pursue a career where she can effectively approach solutions to health disparities in urban neighborhoods while providing medical care directly to those in need. DeJunique’s favorite places are the dance studio, any park with a swing set, and Oneonta Gorge/Creek.
