Ashley Davis is a senior who transferred to PSU from the State University of New York - Syracuse in 2013.  She is studying Molecular and Microbiology toward the goal of working in a clinical research lab.  Ashley wants to work on creating treatments and possibly cures for infectious and chronic diseases.  She has been motivated to keep working toward this goal by children she met while volunteering at Portland’s Doernbecher Children’s Hospital in the Pediatric Acute Care Center.  Ashley also volunteers at the Native American Youth and Family Center, providing tutoring and mentoring to create a positive learning experience and empower native youth.  Ashley contributes to research in the Ballhorn lab (PSU Biology) where she works with PhD student, Brett Younginger, to study the effects of fungal endophytes on sword fern.  Ashley recently accepted a volunteer research position in the Gibbs lab (OHSU Center for Spatial Systems Biomedicine) where she will contribute to research on nerve-specific fluorophores for use in image guided surgery.
