Ashleigh Mustain

Ashleigh Mustain is a second-year Biology major interested in pursuing graduate education and a career in biological or biomedical research. She is a member of the Cherokee Nation, born and raised in the small town of Dundee, Oregon. Uncovering new information about the natural world, especially at the cellular level, has long been a source of wonder for Ashleigh; this passion eventually lead to her current academic goals. Since solidifying her career path, Ashleigh has sought out opportunities to expand her technical skills and research experience. She recently began a volunteer research position with Dr. Suzanne Estes (PSU Biology), where she uses the model organism, C. elegans, to study the effect of mitochondrial genetic damage on oxidative stress resistance. She plans to apply to the 2015-2016 PSU McNair Scholars Program.
