Architectural Design Studio 1 (ARCH 280): Winter 2017: Design work in a second-year undergraduate architecture studio

Taught by professors Nikola Boscanin, John Cooney and Annemarie Jacques, this course is the first in a sequence of two foundational design studios initiating awareness of the creative language of architecture through practical assignments in drawing, modeling and artful making.  The communication of perceptions and imaginative propositions through use of diverse media is encouraged.

In exercise two, students are asked to design a bodily extension and accompanying choreographed ritual.  Students engage their bodies as a point of origin for architecture, creating an artifact and performance to study architecture’s prosthetic relationship to the body.

Students performed their choreographed rituals on the roof terrace of the School of Architecture. From left: Chelsea Kight, Savannah Echols, Yousef Abdo, Chenghao Li, Jordan Nagelkirk, Kevin Bagwell, Rudy Chon, Danjin Xue, Marshall Atmore
