Meet Yolonda Salguiero Meet Yolonda Salguiero
Yolonda is the Native American Student & Community Center Program Coordinator. She has Yakama, Warm Springs, and Mexican ancestry. She grew up on the Yakama Reservation in Toppenish, Washington before moving to Oregon to attend college at Portland State University (PSU). At PSU she studied Criminal Justice and Early Childhood Education and graduated with a degree in Criminology and Criminal Justice in 2006. After a departmental layoff from Portland Police Bureau as a Civilian Background Investigator, she returned to higher education to earn her Master of Social Work degree. She has worked for the National Indian Child Welfare Association, Oregon Health & Science University, the State of Oregon and the Native American Youth and Family Center. She was part of the 2012-2013 Native American LEAD program and a member of the Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce Leadership program. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, lifting weights and being humbled during her Crossfit classes.

Stevie Lemke '12 was the alumni keynote speaker at the Native American Student and Community Center’s (NASCC) tenth anniversary celebration during Portland State of Mind, and spoke of the support she found within those walls to stay on track to finish college despite adversity she faced throughout her college career. Now a J.D candidate at Lewis and Clark, Stevie knows no matter what she will be working for her native community.
