Associated students at Portland State University announce Rock for Relief, a Hurricane Katrina Benefit. The event that is being co-sponsored by many student groups on campus is part of the campus's ongoing effort in providing relief to survivors of Hurricane Katrina.

The benefit will take place on campus at Portland State University in Shattuck Hall room 212, on Saturday January 14 (see driving directions and campus map).

Attendees will be greeted at 7pm by Devin Phillips and New Orleans Straight Ahead, a jazz band relocated to Portland from New Orleans, since the destruction. The rock show will begin at 8pm and includes three prominent rock bands including: John Weinland, Loch Lomond, and Norfolk and Western.

Since the disastrous events of August, aid has been needed to clean up the areas destroyed by the hurricane. The students at Portland State have been holding a drive to clean up Hurricane Katrina by collecting hygiene items around campus. The benefit concert is the closing stages in student's efforts over the past four months. All proceeds and donations will be given to Northwest Medical Teams.

ASPSU encourages the entire student body to attend the event. Students at Portland State will gain free admittance with the price for community members at only $3.00. Served at a cash bar will be alcohol, food, and drink. This event is co-sponsored by the following PSU student groups and organizations: ASPSU, The Vanguard, The College Democrats, The College Republicans, KPSU and Campus Recreation.

The Associated Students of Portland State University (ASPSU) advocate for and represent the interests of the students of Portland State University before internal and external bodies, including providing for student representation and participation on University committees. The ASPSU provide a formal means of communication and interaction among students, student organizations, faculty and the University administration, as well as providing a process for students to participate fully in the allocation of student incidental fees as provided in Oregon statues and the Administrative Rules of the State Board of Higher Education.

The ASPSU consists of 48 staff members: 10 Executive Officers, 25 Senators, 5 Judicial Board Members, and 8 Student Fee Committee Members. The majority of our staff is elected students.
