PSU music alumna Janine Kirstein, the choir director at Gresham High School, was awarded the 2018 OnPoint Prize for Excellence in Education

As the 9-12 Educator of the Year, Kirstein's mortgage will be paid by OnPoint Community Credit Union for one school year. In addition, Gresham High School will receive $2,500 for resources and supplies.

As a graduate student in music at PSU, Kirstein sang in the Chamber Choir, the top choral ensemble at the university. Now she uses her passion for music to teach her students teamwork, perseverance and musicianship.

In her 16 years as choir director, the Gresham High School Concert Choir has been named Mt. Hood Conference Champions 12 times and has placed in the top five at the OSAA State Choir Championships eight times.

The OnPoint Prize for Excellence in Education is an annual award that recognizes educators throughout Oregon and southwest Washington for their exceptional work to inspire students and positively impact their schools and communities.
