Mohammad bin NayefA Saudi Arabian royal who attended Portland State University (PSU) from 1977 to 1980 has been named crown prince, making him the most likely person to be the next king of Saudi Arabia.

The prince, Mohammad bin Nayef, 55, was named crown prince by his uncle, King Salman, by royal decree this week. Nayef attended Portland State University off and on from summer 1977 to summer 1980 according to PSU Registrar, Cindy Baccar. However, he did not earn a degree at PSU, Baccar said.

Nayef transferred to PSU after attending Lewis and Clark College and Portland Community College, she added.

Saudi students have a long history of enrolling at Portland State. In fall term 2014, PSU had 442 students from Saudi Arabia – more than from any other country outside the U.S.
