As the office coordinator of Urban Studies and Planning, you're likely to find me seated at the front desk with a dozen douments open, darting between them like it's nothing. I'm a great first stop when it comes to questions, because if I can't answer it, I likely know who can. I'm the first contact for scheduling, whether it's for courses or a quick meeting. I've been at PSU since 2013 as a transfer student (by way of Western Oregon University), and 2016 as staff.

I've called Oregon home since I was born. The child and younger sibling of awesome teachers, education has always been in my blood. My sister, Stacie Looney, also works at Portland State University, in Transportation and Parking Services. I've only lived in Portland since 2013, but it's come to be my home in that short amount of time. I can't imagine living or working anywhere else.

While not at work, I spend time with two of my favorite hobbies: theater and cosplay. While I enjoy acting, I spend most of my time backstage, whether doing costumes with my sister, lighting, sound, or any kind of managing. Specifically, I spend most of my free time with Beaverton Civic Theater. I also enjoy sewing and textile work. I attend a number of conventions in Oregon and Washington, often wearing a costume I made, that's way too warm for the weather at the time.

What Erin has to say...

BEST PART OF JOB:
Being a central point in contact of the university. Faculty, students (undergrad and grad), staff, alumni, community members- I get to help them all.

UNIQUE ASPECTS ABOUT WORKING AT TOULAN SCHOOL:
While working at an urban university, what a better department to work in than Urban Studies? Watching our faculty and alumni pop up across the nation in different articles and reports is nothing short of awe inspiriting.

BEST PART OF INTERACTION WITH STUDENTS:
Watching the relief wash over them when I'm able to help. I'm here to be a resource; it's nice to see that utilized.

FAVORITE CITY OR URBAN SETTING:
I haven't had the opportunity to travel as much as I wish. Corvallis, OR, is what comes to mind. I grew up in Philomath, a little blip of a town that pushes up against Corvallis. Getting to drive into Corvallis when I got my license at 16 and actually walk around places was a far cry from the 3-mile bike ride I'd been forced to take to simply go to the library. A close second is Anaheim, CA. My family is full of Disney fans. I'm no exception.

FAVORITE NON-URBAN PLACE
Vashon, WA. My spouse's grandparents live on the island, and we go camping there once a year. We can get there via transit the whole way, and watching Portland become Seattle, and Seattle become the heavily wooded island of Vashon is always a treat. Plus, I'm a water fan. The ferries to and from the island are always beautiful.

WHEN NOT AT WORK, I LIKE TO:
Act, sew, swim, go on long walks on nature trails, play video games (desktop or PS4), or read.

DREAM VACATION:
Either Japan with my sister (who taught English there for about two years) or Europe with my spouse. The farthest I've travelled is Florida (for Disney World) or Georgia (when I was 7 and I barely remember it). I've never left the country. One day, though!
