Research Interests

  • Supporting person-directed care in multiple settings and supporting person-centered thinking through research and education.
  • Family ties throughout the life course with an emphasis on mid- and late-life families (intergenerational relationships, caregiving, family bereavement).
  • Work force development across the spectrum of services for older adults (direct care workers, nurses, options counselors, behavioral health specialists).

Current Projects

Validation of the Resident VIEW, a measure of person-directed care from the perspectives of residents of nursing homes, assisted living, residential care, and adult foster care. Supported by the Aging & People with Disabilities Oregon Quality Care Fund, Oregon Department of Human Services. 

Recent completed work: 

  • Projects to develop and then evaluate the Behavioral Health Initiative for Older Adults and People with Disabilities. 2014 – 2018. Funded by the Oregon Health Authority.
  • Evaluation of the Oregon Project Independence Expansion Pilot Project, 2018. Funded by Oregon Department of Human Services
  • Evaluation of the OHSU School of Nursing project, Academic and Practice Partnerships to Strengthen Care for Older Adults in Residential and Assisted Living Settings. 2016-2018.
