KGW's Laural Porter to host the fifteenth annual Simon Benson Awards

The PSU Foundation is pleased to announce that Laural Porter, KGW news anchor and journalist, will host the fifteenth annual Simon Benson Awards on Thursday, October 23, 2014.

Named for one of Oregon's first philanthropists, the Simon Benson Award for Philanthropy was created by Portland State University in 1999 to honor the state's contemporary leaders of philanthropy. In 2012, PSU introduced its Simon Benson Award for Alumni Achievement to recognize outstanding alumni.

Recipients of the Simon Benson Award for Philanthropy are tireless community leaders who give generously of their time and resources and whose legacies will affect the lives of Oregonians for generations to come. This yearís honorees are Earl M. Chiles, and David & Christine Vernier.

Recipients of the Simon Benson Award for Alumni Achievement are outstanding alumni who are recognized for service, achievement, and for encouraging alumni to provide perpetual support to Portland State University over their lifetime. This year's honoree is Ramon S. Torrecilha, Ph.D., PSU: '84 M.S. '86.

Leon E. Panetta
, former CIA director and U.S. Secretary of State will keynote the event.

Proceeds from the Simon Benson Awards Dinner benefit the Fund for PSU, providing support for promising and deserving students, exceptional faculty, and innovative new programs.
