This fall marks the expansion of a growing relationship between the department and the Peking University School of Transnational Law (STL) in Shenzhen, China. Professor Alissa Hartig has been collaborating with faculty and administrators at STL since December 2014, and students in the department began getting involved in this initiative in the spring of 2016, when a group of students in Professor Nike Arnold's curriculum design course developed a legal English "boot camp" for incoming law students. This "boot camp" has now been offered at the Shenzhen campus for two consecutive summers and has been co-taught by law faculty and recent MA TESOL graduate Drew Sowers. This fall, we have further developed the department's relationship with STL by matching 30 of their students with pronunciation tutors from Professor Janet Cowal's course on teaching pronunciation as well as volunteer conversation partners from the department more broadly. We look forward to seeing how this relationship develops in the future!
