Ecuador Design-build: Rebuilding Chamanga

PSU School of Architecture presents the first Fridays@4 of the Spring 2018 term, with a talk by Sergio Palleroni, Professor of Architecture and Director of the School's Center for Public Interest Design, and a group of students who spent three weeks in Chamanga, Ecuador in the summer of 2017. While in Chamanga, the group worked with project partners on the design and construction of a cultural center for a nonprofit organization called Opcion Mas. This organization started as a music initiative in 2009, and over time it has evolved into a wider cultural program that now includes a music and theatre school, a community radio station, and a recording studio.

At Fridays@4, Professor Palleroni and the students will talk about their design-build work, the collaboration with partner organizations, and the progress that has taken place on the project in recent months.

About Fridays@4:

Each Friday at 4pm during most of the academic term, PSU School of Architecture students and faculty gather together to hear from professional designers and architects, academics, visiting artists, innovators, and students in the program, with refreshments and updates from faculty and your student leaders. Fridays@4 is a perfect way to wrap up each week of intense creativity in studio, and get inspired for the productive weekend ahead.

We encourage attendees to bring their own beverage cup in order to reduce waste in Shattuck Hall.

Free and open to the public.
