The PSU School of Film invites you to join us for a breathtaking evening of Japanese silent cinema performed by internationally-renowned benshi Ichiro Kataoka, the most well-known benshi of his generation.

During the silent era, Japanese audiences flocked to films not only for their moving images, but also for the electrifying art of a benshiKatsudo benshi performed alongside a film, interpreting its narration and dialogue, achieving stardom and fame akin to American silent-screen performers.

1. Taro's Steam Train, 1929, JPN

2. It's a Gift, 1923, USA
