Does the Counselor Education Department require any prerequisite coursework?

Two prerequisite courses must be completed prior to fall term of your first year: One upper division undergraduate or graduate level psychopathology course, such as PSU's COUN 430/530 Introduction to Psychiatric Diagnosis, or PSY 434 Introduction to Psychopathology, AND a graduate level introduction to counseling course, such as PSU's COUN 541 Introduction to Counseling. It is advisable to complete these as soon as possible, as not all courses are offered each term at PSU.

Prerequisite courses should be taken prior to the program starting in fall term but do not need to be completed to submit an application. Both prerequisite courses are offered summer term.
