Traditional Chinese Culture: Past, Present, and Future

Abstract: China has five thousand years of rich history.  In this presentation, we will review the basis of traditional Chinese culture, its core values and principles, and the development of Chinese culture over time, going from the remote ancient past to present.  We will discuss how Taoism, Confucianism, and Buddhism shaped Chinese society, current issues and dilemmas, and the future of traditional Chinese culture. 

About the speaker:  Dr. Yu Xiao is an Associate Professor in the Toulan School of Urban Studies and Planning.  She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners.  She grew up in China and has always been interested in Chinese culture.
