Thursday, May 23, 2019 - 12:00pm

Tell Me Who I Am is a performance art piece aimed at exploring identity ascription and construction, especially as it relates to language. Applied Linguistics undergraduate students Dani Jochums and Ben Relampagos wear white clothing and passersby to tell them who they are by writing messages about how they construe the identity of the artists’ on the artists’ clothing. Through this, the duo hopes to evoke visual representations of various labels and assumptions held by those around them. This project will be repeated by the artists as they travel independently around the country and world, resulting in a variety of visual representations of how their identity construction changes contextually. Through this, the two hope to provide the opportunity to artistically evaluate gender, the Asian-American identity, and the nature of identity formation.
