Low impact development practice- Sponge city construction in China
With the development in the process of China's urbanization, many cities face great environmental challenges including the deterioration of water resources, waterlogging, and water shortage. To solve these problems, the concept of “Sponge city” was introduced in China. In this seminar, Dr. YOU will first explain how this policy of Sponge city was implemented, in relating to the water environment, water resource, and water ecology as well as water security. She will also present cases of sponge city construction to illustrate how the sponge city policy is carried out at the central government and local government level, and what this policy has achieved in China.
