Join First Saturday PDX & PSU Institute for Asian Studies for an illustrated lecture about Wells Fargo’s historical service to the unique needs of Chinese and other Asian Pacific clients in Portland and the West.

Inspired by the discovery of gold in California in 1848, Henry Wells and William G. Fargo imagined an express and banking business that would connect the vibrant East Coast with the remote gold fields out in the West.  After opening Wells Fargo in New York on March 18, 1852, offices in San Francisco and Sacramento shortly followed in July.  From Wells Fargo archives and the History Museum, Steve Greenwood will illuminate the history of Wells Fargo’s relationship with Chinese and Asian Pacific clients.

A monthly program featuring lectures and presentations on art, architecture, gardens and historical culture of China and East Asia, highlighting connections with the Pacific NW.
