Civil and Environmental Engineering Undergraduate Honors Thesis Defense: Tel Jensen
Friday, August 18, 2017 - 12:30pm

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering is pleased to announce Tel Jensen's Honors Thesis Defense: "Torrefaction Kinetics of Hemp Hurds in a Small Retort."

Date: Friday, August 18, 2017
Time: 12:30pm
Location: Engineering Building 310
Adviser: Dr. Gwynn Johnson

Torrefaction is thermal degradation of biomass in the absence of oxygen at temperatures between 200 and 300 °C. Torrefaction improves the energy density and ease of processing biomass. Hemp hurds are the inner portion of hemp stems and a byproduct of industrial hemp cultivation. Hemp hurds were torrefied at 250 °C to develop a model of reaction kinetics.
