Partnership Spotlight: The Center for Retail Leadership, Columbia Sportswear & Gerber Gear

The School of Business’ Center for Retail Leadership (CRL) is a collaborative hub that brings students, alumni, faculty and industry leaders together to share ideas, create experiential learning opportunities, innovate and design for the future of the Athletic + Outdoor, and Beverage and Consumer Packaged Goods industries.

Industry partnerships are at the core of the Center for Retail Leadership’s strategy and have contributed significantly to the success of the program. Our industry partners are essential collaborators who dedicate their time and lend expertise to strengthen the program and give students the best educational experience. They act as advocates and champions for our program - guest speaking, teaching, mentoring, funding educational immersion experiences such as Outdoor Retailer and ultimately hiring our graduates. These collaborative partnerships are vital to the success of our students and the program.

A special thank you to this year’s stand-out partners, Scott Welch and Andrew Gritzbaugh, for going above and beyond to invest in the future of the Athletic + Outdoor (A+O) Industry Program and the students of PSU!

Scott Welch, Sr. (pictured left) Global Manager of Corporate Relations at Columbia Sportswear is a Portland State University alumni, adjunct professor and active member of the A+O Advisory Board. He teaches Competitive Dynamics in the A+O Industry to undergraduate and graduate students, bringing his knowledge, professional experience, and network into the classroom as a way to discuss real world, relevant scenarios. Scott’s goal is to “bridge the worlds of business and academia to establish an environment of shared learning and mentorship.”

Andrew Gritzbaugh, (pictured right) VP of Marketing at Gerber Gear is a Portland State University alumni, Army Veteran and active member of the A+O Advisory board. He dedicates his time and lends expertise to help guide the direction of the program to provide the most relevant, valuable learning opportunities for students. Andrew frequently appears as a guest speaker in classes, shares his leadership experience with students and serves as a judge for their final presentations. His engagement, support, and involvement are invaluable to the students and the A+O Industry Program.

Thank you, Scott and Andrew, for investing in this program and the next generation of future leaders!
