Following a national search, Jose Coll has been appointed dean of the PSU School of Social Work effective July 1. He replaces Dean Laura Nissen, who is stepping down to return to faculty. Coll has been director of the School of Social Work at Texas State University since 2016. Previously he was founder and director of the Office of Veteran Student Services at Saint Leo University in Florida.

As dean of the School of Social Work, Coll will oversee 111 multidisciplinary faculty, including adjunct faculty, and manage a nearly $5 million budget. He is tasked with helping to update the school’s vision for its future, respond to student and community needs, develop new resources for the school, recruit and retain a world-class faculty and other duties.

In 2008, Coll became founding director of a distance learning academic center for the University of Southern California in San Diego. He earned a doctorate in curriculum and instruction from University of South Florida, Tampa, in 2007.
