President Bernstine and four community college presidents form the Portland Area Higher Education Consortium

A historic agreement between the presidents of Portland State University and of Chemeketa, Clackamas, Mt. Hood, and Portland Community Colleges will allow students to take advantage of each school to achieve their academic goals.

“This consortium is a model for Oregon and for the nation, in providing seamless education between universities and their community college partners,” said Portland State President Daniel O. Bernstine.

The newly formed Portland Area Higher Education Consortium will integrate admissions and registration for students and coordinate financial aid and advising. The agreement also calls for joint academic planning, the sharing of classroom facilities, and the opportunity for students to earn a bachelor’s degree from Portland State while remaining on the community college campus. Students within the consortium schools already benefit from joint enrollment agreements and single financial aid packages; by summer 2007, a single application and registration process will be in place.
