D2L Has a New Look

Starting June 21st, you’ll notice a new look and feel on D2L. “Daylight” is a new design that looks great on laptops, tablets, and smartphones. You’ll find it much easier to stay connected and access the learning environment from anywhere, and the simpler formatting and layouts will make it easier for you to find what you need.

How will this affect me?

The pages, buttons, links, and menus in D2L will look different. However, most of the steps you take to do things in D2L will be the same. Two exceptions are the D2L homepage (where you see the list of all of your courses) and some tool names.

What’s different about the D2L homepage?

The old D2L homepage was a list of links to your courses, organized by term. The new D2L homepage also contains links to all of your courses, but in a different format. On the new page, you will have a greater ability to customize which courses you see, and how they are organized.

What changes will be made to tool names?

We are going to take the opportunity during this update to change some tool names and align ourselves with the official D2L language. This change is being made to reduce confusion for Portland Community College (PCC) transfer students, and to help shorten the learning curve for new users.

  • News will become Announcements.
  • Dropbox will become Assignments (students and instructors often confuse the D2L Dropbox with the file storage system Dropbox).
  • Course Content will become Content.
