Portland State University Professor of Chemistry, David H. Peyton, will present Chemistry for public health: Malaria drug development & Electronic cigarettes at the Department of Chemistry's weekly seminar series
About Professor Peyton
Dr. Peyton's research is centered on medicinal and biophysical chemistry, with emphasis in the areas of nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy in biological systems, and developing antimalarial drugs. He also directs the Portland State University NMR facility, which serves the entire Portland area.
The Peyton group applies a variety of tools, depending on the nature of a particular problem. These tools include organic synthesis, electronic spectroscopy, NMR spectroscopy, and computer modeling. Specific projects currently being investigated include reversed chloroquines as antimalarial agents, protein structure/function studies, subtilisin & furin, and tobacco smoke chemistry.
